Close a period

Locking a filed month or year, and what still moves afterwards.

Setting a closing date stops new entries being posted into the period before it, and stops existing ones being changed.

What Elvira does with things that would have posted there

Rather than refusing or rewriting, it posts a dated entry on the first open day. Reversing a revenue recognition schedule works this way: the filed postings stay where they are, and the money is taken back afterwards.

A filed period is filed on the way out as well as on the way in.

  1. Open Accounting → Period close and set the closing date.
Open Accounting → Period close and set the closing date.
Everything before that date is locked against new entries and changes.
