Type a serial, get the answer

Somebody is at the counter with a machine and a complaint. The only question that matters is whether it is still under warranty, and in most businesses the answer takes twenty minutes and a box of paperwork.

What the register answers

Who supplied it, and when it arrived.
Who bought it, and on which invoice.
Whether it is still under warranty, and how many days are left.
Whether it is still on your shelf at all.

How it gets there

Tick track serial numbers on an item and give it a warranty length. Serials are then recorded as units come in on a bill and go out on an invoice: no separate register to maintain, because the register is the documents.

Finding one

Scan or type the serial. The whole list can also be filtered by item, by status, and by warranty state: active, expiring, expired: which is how you find the twelve machines whose cover runs out next month before their owners do.

And a report to hand over

A warranty report a service desk can work from, without giving them access to your books.
